Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember things — like whether you are signed in — and can be used to understand how the site is used. This policy explains what cookies GCSE Coach uses and why. It complies with UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

2. Cookies we use

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the app to work. You cannot turn them off. Under PECR, no consent is required for strictly necessary cookies.

  • NextAuth session cookie: Keeps you signed in during your session. Set when you sign in with Google. Expires when you sign out or after 30 days of inactivity.
  • Cookie consent preference: Stores your accept/decline choice so we do not ask again. Stored in localStorage (not a cookie, but similar function).

Analytics cookies (optional — requires your consent)

These cookies help us understand how the app is being used so we can improve it. We only set these if you click "Accept" in the cookie banner.

  • Vercel Analytics: Anonymous page view data. No personal data is attached. Helps us see which pages are used most.
  • Vercel Speed Insights: Anonymous performance data. Helps us improve loading times.

Local storage (your device only)

GCSE Coach stores your revision progress data in your browser's local storage. This is not a cookie — it never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party.

  • XP, levels, and streaks
  • Attempt history (which questions you have answered and your scores)
  • Settings (daily target, preferences)

You can delete all of this at any time using "Delete all my progress" in Settings.

3. Managing cookies

You can change your cookie preference at any time. Look for the "Cookie preferences" link in the app footer to reopen the consent banner.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies. Visit aboutcookies.org for guidance specific to your browser.

Disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in to GCSE Coach.

4. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when we add new features or services that use cookies. We will notify you of any significant changes via the app or by email.

5. More information

For more about how we handle your personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
